| | | | Tired of Cable or Satellite TV? - Central Ohio | | | | | posted: 12-8-09 8:35 PM GMT | | | | | When the cable company recently raised our bill another $40 for their TV programming I decided I'd had enough and canceled the TV service altogether. Out of the over 900 channels they offer we only watch about five or six programs a week and most of those are on broadcast stations anyway. I then began to look into alternatives and about a month later we are now watching TV and have control over most of the "programming" AND can watch ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and PBS! We still have an older (non-HD) TV set so I had to buy a converter box ($18) and after shopping for a "digital" TV antenna decided to build my own. It was fairly easy, fun, and cost me all of $4 for parts! So we are now watching local HD broadcast stations AND a wide variety of movies, documentaries, etc. that WE select, and the cost of setup for this will be paid for in three or four months from the money we're NOT sending to the cable company for TV service! Being unemployed, it occurred to me that I could start a "cottage industry" of sorts using what I've learned and my expertise to help others who are also fed up with cable or satellite TV yet are unsure how to proceed. So I am offering my services as a consultant and expediter to those who want to save money yet still have access to TV news and entertainment programming.
